Mirrors
Different Types of Mirrors:
Flat Mirror: This is the most common type of mirror, reflecting light without distorting the image. It produces virtual images that are the same size as the object and laterally inverted.
Concave Mirror: These mirrors curve inward and can focus light rays to create real or virtual images, depending on the distance between the object and the mirror. When an object is beyond the focal point, it produces a real, inverted image; when the object is within the focal point, it creates a virtual, upright image.
Convex Mirror: These mirrors curve outward and produce virtual images that are smaller than the object. They have a wider field of view and are commonly used as safety mirrors in stores, parking lots, and driveways.
Two-way Mirror: Also known as a one-way mirror, it is partially reflective and partially transparent. It allows light to pass through from one side and reflects light from the other, often used in interrogation rooms, security setups, and some types of observation windows.
This mirror has a parabolic shape that helps focus incoming light rays to a single point, commonly used in telescopes, satellite dishes, and car headlights.
Acoustic Mirror: Historically used before the invention of radar, these were large concrete structures shaped like a dish or curved wall designed to reflect and concentrate sound waves to detect distant enemy aircraft.
Each type of mirror has its specific characteristics and applications based on how it reflects and manipulates light or sound waves.
